Island in the Storm

“Island in the Storm”, is about surviving a post COVID 19 apocalypse set in Albany Georgia.  It tells the story of how citizens both black and white come together through the unlikely leadership of a young couple intent on saving their town from an encroaching international crisis, while simultaneously staving off the more immediate threat of armed soldiers planning to surround their town and destroy it.  Although the novel shows the dynamics of handling a crisis, at its core it is a love story of an unlikely couple thrown together from morally and socially divergent backgrounds in an apocalypse cause by catastrophic political failure.

I began to write this book two years before the current health emergency. As the crisis became acute in my hometown of Albany, Georgia, I was amazed at the parallels to the world of fiction in my book. As devastating as coronavirus has been, with the conflict and lack of cooperation in the world today a story similar to the one in this book could still happened.  I have dedicated this book to those healthcare workers who fought the pandemic, the patients who suffered its discomfort and the memory of those who succumbed to the illness. I have agreed to donate any income derived from the sales of this book to the United Way of Southwest Georgia to support the Albany survivors of the coronavirus.

Description

A few years after COVID 19, another world-wide crisis threatens the survival of much of the world. In a small town in southwest Georgia, only the efforts of a black mayor and a white sheriff, banding together with the help of an unlikely young couple, save the area from a fatal disaster. “Island in the Storm” is the story of how citizens from every walk of life come together intent on protecting their community from an encroaching international crisis, starvation, and the menace of hundreds of armed marauders coming from every direction intent on taking everything they have.
